I Smell Roses!

I’m ready to start booking airfare to Pasadena again for the Rose Bowl. Obviously the win against Ohio State was a big one. It turned out to be a great game, my only disappointment was that ABC still can’t seem to broadcast more than a few ‘big’ games a season in HDTV. I don’t want to continue the rant or restart a debate against Pro vs. College in terms of revenue, but other networks do it and I’m otherwise pleased with ABC’s HDTV lineup. It’s just that I’d rather see the Horns in HDTV over Desperate Housewives. Not only that, I wish they wouldn’t falsely advertise HDTV on their website for an event up until the week of. Anyways…

Everybody seemed to go crazy after that game. I happened to find myself on “The Drag” in stand still traffic, cars honking, trucks full of people, and horns fans running in the streets waving burnt orange flags. The police finally came to block off the street across from the union where a crowd of people were chanting. It’s nice to see that everyone on campus agrees it was a big game. The cool thing was that it wasn’t even a home game where you might expect a lot of excitement, these were the majority of people who didn’t get tickets and make the drive coming out from their apartments and dorms to celebrate.

I didn’t check it out, but I doubt that was the case again after the Rice game this past weekend, but it too was still a fun game to watch. I stayed until the end. At least it was a little more fast paced than the Louisianna Lafayette game that started off the season. So what if we didn’t win as a big as USC over Arkansas (70-17). Rice isn’t too bad and I think we stopped trying after the first half. The bigger news of the weekend is that OU lost to UCLA (41-24) in the Rose Bowl. Now, OU isn’t even ranked. Oh well, everybody’s scrambling for tickets to that game in two weeks to see us finally break the losing streak against them. I’ll be there. Meanwhile, back to scheduling New Year’s plans.

Katrina Aftermath on Google Maps

Google Maps (and it’s bigger brother desktop application Google Earth) is already one of my recent favorite web technologies. Now here’s an interesting extension of the satellite imaging to show before/after comparisons of the Hurricane Katrina devastation…

There are also Google Earth image overlays becoming available…

This DigitalGlobe site also seems popular, I heard it on the news the other day…

Real World Austin House on A9.com Maps

This should look familiar to anybody who’s seen any of the The Real World: Austin…

A9.com Maps

Plus, it’s a cool demonstration of Amazon’s A9.com BlockView Images. Actually, I drove by it earlier today and it is painted red so those images must have been taken sometime last year. Also, there’s no neon “Austin” sign on top.

My First Post

Hello World! This is my first post. Maybe I'll eventually think of something to say.
